Salon Amour Funds Our Trafficking Project In Nepal

A week ago, Salon Amour in Walnut Creek, CA, declared themselves SlaveFree.

Salon owner Susan Falcon tells us, “The issue of human trafficking is personal for me because I know someone who got caught up in it. Watching CALL+RESPONSE was the final straw, I realized I had to get involved in the fight against slavery. [And] I loved that Call+Response supported other groups doing work to help free people.”
After watching the film, Susan says, “The film is a powerful tool in raising awareness and it helped get all my stylists excited about helping.” We were also told that it left those at Salon Amour feeling overwhelmed or angry. What’s important is that they felt inspired to respond and they did.

So for a whole day, Salon Amour brought in all their stylists and donated 100% of all the money that they made to Call+Reponse’s partner group, the Nepalese Youth Opportunity Fund – an organization that helps free girls from bonded labor. By the end of the day, Salon Amour had raised $5,000—enough to rescue and care for 50 girls.

A British philosopher once said, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men and women do nothing.”  Essentially, it all comes down to awareness and action. Faced with modern-day slavery, how will you respond? Not all of us can raise $5,000 in one day or visit countries like Thailand and Cambodia to face the issue of human trafficking first hand. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do.   Who you are and where you are is critical to seeing the end of slavery in our lifetimes.

Like Salon Amour, YOU can raise awareness in your own city. Send letters on Chain Store Reaction www.chainstorereaction.com and demand slave free products. Register your phone as a Blood Phone and demand phone manufacturers to use conflict-free metals, www.SlaveFree.com.

Do you have a small business that would like to take the proceeds from sales for a day to support one of our projects?    Rehabilitate child soldiers?  Provide education for trafficking survivors?  We would like to work with you to create such an event.  Email Amy at Amy@callandresponse.com to find out how.

Host a screening of CALL+RESPONSE www.callandresponse.com/store/dvd-kits/. Get involved someway, somehow—and use your talents and resources to put an end to trafficking now.
